Resolved Question: weird insect in California?

i live in Indio, CA, and have a weird bug in my room. it looks almost like a grasshopper, but it's almost a brownish gray color. it tends to stay stationary until you get close to it. then it hops around. it has antennas about 2-2.5 inches long, and is about an inch in length. i didn't get a good look at it, because i don't have a well lit room. the bug guy can't come out until Friday so i was wondering if anyone knows what it is?...
