Resolved Question: 2012 Coachella Festival...?

So I really want to attend the 2012 Coachella festival in Indio, California. I'm not from Cali, and I just wanted to know which would be the best idea: rent a car and camp out or stay in a hotel in LA and catch a bus/taxi that goes to Indio with a 1,3, or 7 day advance pass?
