Resolved Question: California ticket...12500 and 22356...foreing driver on a Us. truck...WOuld you please advise?

Hi, traveling to California for a one week vacation, on my wife's f150, she is an american, I am a Mexican, here is the story, trucks alternator failed in the middle of the night, we got stucked near Indio in California, we bought a new battery on the morning, and try to get to the nearest city to get this fixed, so I started to drive her truck, but got pulled off for doing 96 on a 70 mph zone, this is my fault, no doubt, the police officer told me that I could not drive in U.S. because of my foreing license (why?) which I show him, and fined me with No DL (12500) and Speed (22356) he tould me to get to court in el Paso texas and that mi citation would be sent to my Wifes address there...12500 was set as a misdemeanor, what does this means? How much I would have to pay? will this affects my wifes insurance (raise)? What can I do?
